Oldham Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service
We provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults who have developed communication or swallowing problems.
These may be caused by neurological conditions such as having a stroke, Parkinson's disease, brain injury, dementia, head and neck cancer or other illnesses.
We also provide therapy to people with voice problems.
The service is for adults registered with an Oldham GP.
The service is provided in clinic, at home or in residential and nursing homes.
We work closely with other teams to provide a patient-centred service.
We also provide training to other healthcare professionals, carers and care workers to improve patient care.
We have an open referral system for people with communication problems.
Referrals for assessment of swallowing difficulties must be from a GP or other qualified health professional.
According to Royal College guidelines, referrals for voice must include an up to date ENT (ears, nose and throat) report.
