The Merit Team is the community mental health team for older people in Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton and provides mental health assessment and monitoring for people aged 65 and over. Younger people with a progressive dementia can also be supported by the team. The team comprises of eight mental health nurses, a mental health occupational therapist, administrator and team manager. The service operates Monday to Friday between the hours of 9-5. The team works closely with the older age consultants based at the Birch Hill and Royal Oldham Hospitals. The team does not commission services/packages of care for the people and carers they are supporting. Referrals are made via the Older people's Single Point of Entry Service who screen and direct referrals to the most appropriate team within the Older people's Mental Health Service.
