New name, same trusted care

On Monday 30 March 2026, living well services across Greater Manchester changed their name to neighbourhood mental health services (e.g. Bury living well service is now Bury neighbourhood mental health service).

We’ve also refreshed the service identity – which includes things like the logo on the top of letters, leaflets and forms.  This has been developed with people who have lived experience. Most changes will be digital, meaning costs are minimal.

A consistent name and identity across Greater Manchester will make it easier for everyone to recognise and understand who we are and what we do.

We run the services jointly with voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations and other partners.

We support adults (18+).

Our services are made up of two teams:

1: Neighbourhood mental health team

We can support you if you’re experiencing significant mental health difficulties that have a serious impact on your life, where support from your GP, talking therapies, or community services hasn’t been enough. A diagnosis isn’t needed.

We’ll support your mental health recovery and work with lots of partners to provide joined-up support for wider issues that may be affecting your mental health e.g. housing, finances, substance use, domestic abuse, physical health and more.

2: Specialist mental health team

Formerly known as the community mental health team, we can offer support if you have more complex and long-term mental health issues, particularly if there are significant safety concerns such as frequent crises, self-harm , or suicidal thoughts.  Several experienced professionals will work together to provide you with longer term specialist support.

When you are referred into the service, we’ll work with you to decide whether the neighbourhood mental health team or the specialist mental health team is best to meet your needs. You might receive support from one or both teams and this may change over time.

Our services aim to:

  • Ensure quick and easy access to the right community-based support, tailored to your changing needs.
  • Focus on personal strengths and building self-management skills, helping you feel more independent, confident, and in control of your life.
  • Reduce the need to repeat your story, with better communication and co-ordination between different services.
  • Enable stronger support from family, carers, and social networks, and increasing opportunities to connect with your local community.
  • Provide access to peer support from people with lived experience, who can offer empathy, understanding, and practical advice.
  • Create a more positive and personalised experience of care, shaped around what matters most to you.

Our services have helped thousands of people. Read some of their stories here.
