As part of improvements to our adult mental health crisis services, we’ve invested £4m into developing a new crisis resolution home treatment service in each of our five boroughs.

On Monday 28 September 2026, we launched a new crisis resolution home treatment service in:

  • Bury
  • Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale
  • Oldham
  • Stockport
  • Tameside and Glossop*
    (*) Recruitment to the Tameside and Glossop team is still underway. Some parts of the new service may not always be available as quickly as planned, particularly outside normal working hours. During these periods, we’ll continue to ensure the person receives safe and effective care that meets their needs. 

The new services build on our current home treatment teams, bringing assessment, treatment and support together into one consistent, easy and quick service for people up to the age of 65 experiencing a mental health crisis. This could include:

  • Self-harm, active suicidal thoughts, significant emotional distress, behavioural disturbance, or other indicators of an escalating mental health crisis which are not longstanding.
  • Rapid deterioration in their mental health, and wellbeing associated with factors such as:
    • Breakdown or loss of support systems.
    • Abuse, exploitation, or safeguarding concerns.
    • Acute interpersonal or environmental stressors.

What we can offer

Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the improvements mean we can: 

  • Respond quickly when urgent help is needed. A member of the team will talk with the person to understand their needs and agree how quickly support is required. 
    • If their needs are very urgent, we aim to see them face-to-face within four hours.
    •  If their needs are urgent, we aim to see them within 24 hours.
  • Provide intensive support at home to help them avoid a hospital admission wherever possible.
  • Support the person through the mental health crisis and help them get the right community-based support once the crisis has passed.
  • Support people to return home sooner from hospital and continue their treatment and care there.
  • Work more closely with people's GP and other services, so care is joined up

Referrals are accepted from:

  • GPs and other healthcare professionals.
  • Fire service (police and ambulance colleagues should contact the mental health urgent triage service)
  • Non-mental health professionals (e.g. adult social care, housing, substance misuse)
  • Voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise partners (NHS Greater Manchester contracted partners only).
  • Physical health acute, urgent care and community services
  • Mental health professionals working in hospital, crisis and community services
  • Approved mental health professionals
