NHS Greater Manchester, Greater Manchester Mental Health, Pennine Care, Gaddum and other partners have been working together to review the name and brand of living well services across Greater Manchester.

Based on feedback, we agreed to develop a new and consistent service name and brand for all ten services. The brand includes things like the logo and images you see on service letterheads, leaflets etc.

A consistent name and brand will help you easily recognise your local service, wherever you live.

New name and new icon - your help needed

Following engagement with patients, carers and professionals, from February 2026 the name of all ten living well mental health services will change to neighbourhood mental health services.

For example, Bury Living Well Service will change to Bury Neighbourhood Mental Health Service.

Alongside the new name, we're developing a new service icon.

You're invited to vote for your favourite of the three icons that have been developed in partnership with people who have lived experience (patients and carers). The most popular choice will be adopted for all ten living well services.

Visit our survey to choose your favourite by Friday 23 January.

You'll start to see the new name and brand used from February 2026. We'll be in touch with patients, carers, partners and others to let them know about the changes.

Why we need to change the name

In several Greater Manchester boroughs, there are well-established physical health and wellbeing-services called living well. There is also the prominent Greater Manchester Mayor's live well programme, which aims to reduce inequalities.

Using the same name for our mental health services is causing confusion among some patients and professionals.

Feedback also tells us that living well doesn't clearly and accurately reflect what our services offer - which is lots of different types of support for adults with complex mental health issues.

Why we need to change the brand

Currently there's no brand consistency across our living well services, with several different "logos" being used. Image of current icons.jpg

There's lots of evidence to support the importance of brand consistency, with the most successful global organisations taking a consistent approach (e.g. Apple and Microsoft). The same benefits apply to the public sector and the services we provide.

Also, the current  "logos" don't adhere to national guidelines which are based on robust and extensive research and public insight.

The research tells us that alternative logos “create confusion, mistrust and concern” and people “perceive it is a service provided by the private sector”. This is further evidenced by local feedback collected about some of the current living well "logos".

Several of the current "logos" feature the words living well, which is being changed to neighbourhood mental health services.

All this meant a review of the current branding was needed.

Our approach to re-branding:

People with lived experience of mental health conditions (patients and carers) and professionals who work with them are central to our re-brand work.

To ensure existing work on the current "logos" wasn't lost, an in-depth discussion was had about them during engagement sessions attended by people with lived experience. They talked about what they liked and didn't like about each. They were then asked what they'd like to see in a new service icon.

Their feedback shaped the development of the three icon options, which everyone is now invited to vote on.
