Congratulations to the Greater Manchester, Wigan, and Liverpool British Transport joint response services, named Team of the Year at the 2025 British Transport Police Federation Awards.
The Greater Manchester service is delivered by Pennine Care, British Transport Police, Network Rail, and Greater Manchester Mental Health. It involves a mental health practitioner and police officer jointly responding to crisis incidents across the rail network.
The three teams have reduced 136 detentions by 62%; improving patient care and experience, reducing ambulance use, A&E admissions, and bed costs, and enabling officers to return to frontline duties faster.
Pennine Care practitioner Danielle Stephenson, who attended the ceremony, said: “Winning such a prestigious national award is a tremendous honour. It’s inspiring to be recognised alongside our northwest colleagues. We all share a commitment to ensuring highly vulnerable individuals receive the care they need.”
This national success follows the service being selected as a Pennine Care People Award brilliant partnership finalist.
Danielle has also been awarded a British Transport Police Divisional Commanders’ Commendation for her outstanding professionalism, dedication and teamwork during a critical incident at Piccadilly station.
