Moorside Ward is an 18-bed acute ward for men aged 18 to 65 with severe mental illness.

The ward is on the ground floor of the John Elliot Unit at Birch Hill Hospital.

We provide assessment, care and treatment for people from Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale. We may also care for people from other areas served by Pennine Care, including Bury, Oldham, Stockport and Tameside.

Our team includes mental health nurses, clinical support workers, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists, a consultant psychiatrist and other medical staff.

We work closely with specialist and neighbourhood mental health teams, GPs, adult social care services, and crisis resolution and home treatment teams.

Together, we support you throughout your recovery and help your prepare to leave hospital safely.

If you’re a patient on a ward and usually smoke, we have a variety of options to support you whilst in hospital. Please speak to any member of the ward team to discuss how we can support you.
