We caught up with our chair, Evelyn Asante-Mensah OBE, ahead of International Women's Day to hear about some of the work we're doing and the message to others out there:

Pennine Care female board photo.JPG“One of our achievements is having a chief executive who works part time and delivers her role superbly.

There’s a stereotype of a male chief executive and an expectation that as a female you will emulate this behaviour. But we have recognised that in order to be effective and efficient we need to model who we want to be.

It says to other women in senior positions that we are a trust open to different working patterns, and you shouldn’t be afraid to ask.

Ten of our 15 board members are female, which has been a transformative journey. This includes our chief executive, executive director of nursing, healthcare professionals and quality governance, and our executive director of finance.

Having a gender balance really provides different experiences and expertise to shape our culture.”
