Young people at Hope Unit, on the Fairfield General site, have just had a fabulous outdoor gym installed, thanks to funding from NHS Charities Together.

Charlie Pitchforth, Dan Woods and Ian Vickers.jpgDan Woods (pictured front), one of the young people supported on Hope unit, told us:

“The gym looks amazing. Just being able to go outside and do some exercise inside of sitting around indoors will really help me with my recovery. It’s nice to get out in the fresh air.”

Ian Vickers (pictured right), senior nursing assistant, and Charlie Pitchforth (pictured left), activity coordinator successfully applied for £8500 for the five piece gym, which sits in a newly landscaped garden at the back of the ward.

Ian added: “It’s been proven that exercise helps with recovery in mental health and now thanks to the incredible efforts of Captain Tom’s fundraising we have managed to get this installation completed.

It will help patients in their recovery for many years to come.”

We're still adding the finishing touches, but check out a video preview in the comments (courtesy of Stephen Welch, capital projects officer):
