You may have seen a recent report in the media about the use of a Facebook tracking tool, known as Meta Pixel, on NHS websites.

We were contacted by The Observer newspaper regarding our use of this tool on our website. It was added as part of an online recruitment campaign to help us reach more people who had already engaged with our website with our Facebook recruitment adverts.

The Observer informed us, following their investigation, that through this tool, details of which web pages people visit have also been sent back to Meta (Facebook) in order to potentially undertake their own targeted advertising.

We did not know that Meta was using this information for their own marketing purposes and therefore we have taken immediate action and removed it. If we did know what the tool would be doing, please be assured we would not have used it. We also apologise that, upon review of the Trust website cookie privacy notice, it wasn’t made clear that the Trust would be using the Meta Pixel as part of our recruitment campaign.

If you have any questions relating to the above please email: communications.penninecare@nhs.net in the first instance. Further information on how the Trust processes your information can be found at How we use your information :: Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust.
