Today we welcome Claudette Elliott (left) to the role of our chair, and say a fond farewell to Evelyn Asante-Mensah (right).

evelyn and claudette.JPGEvelyn joined us back in November 2017, having already made an incredible contribution in the health, education and housing sectors. This includes an OBE in 2006 for services to ethnic minorities in the field of health, and a lifetime achievement award from the Caribbean African Health Network in 2023.

Evelyn has made a lasting impact on many of us, we’d like to say thank you and wish her all the best.

Evelyn also shared a message of thanks to colleagues, patients and our local communities:

"Serving as your chair over the past eight years has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. This is a very special organisation, and I have loved every moment.

"I am proud of the culture we’ve built together. Proud of the progress we’ve made. And most of all, proud of the people who make Pennine Care what it is."I leave with immense pride - and with deep gratitude for the privilege of having served alongside you. I will be cheering you on all the way."

Claudette takes over the role following a competitive interview process, having previously been our deputy chair and a non-executive director.

Claudette is a highly respected and accomplished public sector leader, with 40 years of experience in health and social care.

She began her career as an auxiliary nurse at Wythenshawe Hospital, later qualifying as a social worker before returning to the NHS in a range of senior leadership roles, as well as working as a management consultant.

As deputy chair, Claudette has demonstrated unwavering commitment to improving mental health, learning disability and autism services, and championing equity with integrity and strong values. Her deep understanding of the NHS - as a frontline worker, leader, and board member - will be invaluable as we move into the next phase of our journey.

Claudette said: “I feel so proud and privileged to be appointed as chair of this wonderful organisation. Pennine Care holds such a special place in my heart, and I feel constantly inspired by everyone who works here.

“Evelyn will be such a hard act to follow, but I will do everything I can to continue her superb work and build on her outstanding legacy - supporting our brilliant teams, doing the very best for patients, carers and communities, and tackling health inequalities.”
