Pregnancy and maternity (protected characteristic)
It is unlawful for an employer to dismiss you because you are pregnant or for reasons connected with your pregnancy or maternity leave.
It is also unlawful for your employer to deny you access to holiday pay, sickness pay training or any other contractual benefit that all employees are entitled to.
Being pregnany does not suddenly become less capable of doing your job.
When you are pregnant but have not yet started your maternity leave, you have the right to be treated equally.
- offer the same training and promotion opportunities as other staff
- allow the individual concerned to keep the same duties and responsibilities once they are back at work
