A man from Tameside has shown it’s never too late to quit smoking and improve your health, after stopping his 50-year habit.

Photo - Roy Hallsworth and his wife Lynn.jpgRoy Hallsworth used to smoke over 40 roll up cigarettes per day, without a filter.

Roy thought he’d be a smoker for the rest of his life, but after two strokes and a stay in hospital, he contacted Be Well Tameside and received one-to-one support from advisor, Megan Horan.

Roy said: “I smoked for over 50 years and I can’t believe I’ve managed to stop.

“I still get the odd craving but it is now more of a reflex where I will just be so used to reaching for a cigarette.  I remind myself I have stopped and I think about how far I have come.

“My taste has come back and sense of smell, so much so, that some foods don’t taste the same as they used to.  I’m also not coughing as much and can notice the difference.”

With this month being Stoptober, there is no better time to start your own quitting journey.
