Our service

Pennine Care TMS signage on brick wallOur service is run by Pennine Care, which provides a range of NHS mental health, learning disability and autism services across Greater Manchester.

When we launched our service in April 2021, we were proud to become the very first NHS trust in the northwest of England to offer transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for treatment resistant depression. This means where medication and other therapies haven’t worked, aren’t appropriate, or the patient doesn't wish to try them.

How to find our clinic

We're based in Forest House on the Royal Oldham Hospital site. The find our clinic page has directions and access guides.

Meet the team

You'll have a dedicated team responsible for your care, including one of our consultant psychiatrists and a mental health nurse. Visit our meet the team page to learn more.

Three strands to our service
Pennine Care NHS patients

The cost of your treatment will be covered by Pennine Care, if you're currently a patient, or live in our footprint (Bury, Heywood, Middleton, Rochdale, Oldham, Stockport, Tameside, Glossop).

Non-Pennine Care NHS patients

Subject to funding approval, we can offer NHS funded treatment to non-Pennine Care patients. This means people who don't live in the Pennine Care footprint (Bury, Heywood, Middleton, Rochdale, Oldham, Stockport, Tameside, Glossop).

To cover the cost of your treatment, a funding application must be made to the your local integrated care board. Your GP or mental health professional can help with this.

To improve the care and experience our patients receive, we have taken part in the national TMS BRIGhTMIND study.

It allowed us to be at the forefront and to contribute to the further development of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), access equipment and additional funding and will open up opportunities for further research studies.

Please contact us if you'd like to know more.
