Bevan Place is a 15-bed inpatient unit, which opened in 2008 and is based at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport.
The unit provides mental health rehabilitation and high support to men aged over 50 years (with an average age of 64 years), who have a severe and enduring mental health issue, for example schizophrenia, and are ready to step down from a medium or low security setting. The team has a proven track record in managing service users who have spent a substantial period of time in a secure environment.
Many service users also have varying degrees of cognitive impairment and physical illness.
The typical length of stay is two to five years, although longer term placements can be offered if required.
Service users are typically discharged into nursing homes, residential homes or sheltered housing accommodation.
