Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Criminal Justice Mental Health Service
The Criminal Justice Mental Health Team covers the five boroughs within the Pennine Care footprint.
The function of the team is to offer advice, assessments, risk assessment, and provide some short term interventions for clients with mental health needs who may be on the periphery of offending behaviour or have already committed an offence along with supporting services involved with this client group to achieve best outcomes.
The purpose of the team is to assess and make recommendations for clients who are involved in the criminal justice system, in order to ensure fair treatment, access to appropriate services and diversion away from the criminal justice system for those offenders who are in need of treatment rather than punishment.
Public protection is a key element of this process.
We work collaboratively with mental health services, social care, the police, the courts, prisons, probation servicesand others to try to obtain the best and fairest pathway for the offender with mental health problems and to ensure that public protection remains at the forefront.
The team operates an open referral system.
