Rehabilitation and High Support Directorate
Our Rehabilitation and High Support Directorate (RHSD), part of the Trust’s Specialist Services Division, provides low secure care for men and a range of step-down services for both men and women, along with a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit for men.
These aim to support service users to reach their full potential and optimum level of independence and to enhance their life skills and community functioning. The ultimate aim is to enable them to safely integrate back into their local communities, where appropriate.
Our RHSD services are delivered at nine bespoke units, which are age and gender specific (with the exception of one mixed sex unit) and are located across the Pennine Care footprint either within the community or on a hospital site.
The majority of units accept referrals for people across the Pennine Care footprint, and further field, where appropriate.

The Clinical Pathway Team
The Clinical Pathway Team is the first point of contact for all referrals to our RHSD services and has a specific responsibility to assess and advise on the most appropriate placement for all men referred to our low secure services. The team also monitors low secure and Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) ‘out of area’ placements and provides advice about appropriate care pathways for service users with complex needs and who present with a higher level of risk.
