Bury and Rochdale eye service offers social media support

Eye service staff have set up a Facebook page to share information with patients and their families.

The Bury and Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Community Eye Service, which is part of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, provide a range of services and you will find tips on eye health and news items on their Facebook page.

The service is made up of orthoptists, optometrists, an ophthalmologist and support staff. It provides diagnosis and treatment of vision defects, eye movement abnormalities and eye diseases or injury.

The service also provides low vision aids for adults and children with severe visual impairment, glasses testing for children and glaucoma diagnosis and care.

Claire Topping, Highly Specialist Orthoptist for Bury, said: “We want people to take the best possible care of their eyes throughout their lives - with Facebook  being so popular and widely used, it gives is another way to do so.

“This could include reminders to have regular eye tests, how to use vision aids or information on managing an existing eye condition.

“We can also quickly share up to date information about our service, such as events, changes to clinics, extended working hours or just relevant awareness raising and advice.

“People can also use the page to contact us if they have a general query relating to the service.”

The service is available to anyone registered with a Bury or Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale GP in and is delivered at a number of community clinics and Rochdale Infirmary.

Self-referrals are accepted for appropriate patients, as well as referrals from health professionals.
