Statement in response to The Guardian article
Statement in response to The Guardian article: “Revealed: NHS hospitals investigate one in seven deaths of vulnerable patients”
Dr Henry Ticehurst, Medical Director at Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, commented: “In August 2015, the Trust received a freedom of information request (FOI) related to deaths of patients with a learning disability since 2011, to which the Trust responded. Pennine Care only provides learning disability services to patients based within the community and not inpatients. However, the information provided to The Guardian through the FOI has been reported in an article about inpatient care. This is inaccurate.
“The Trust has expressed this inaccuracy in writing to The Guardian and has requested a correction to the article.
“Patient safety is of paramount importance here at Pennine Care and we have a strong track record in ensuring appropriate investigations are carried out thoroughly, when they are warranted.”
