CAMHS name consultation

As part of our wider transformation work, we are undertaking a consultation on the name of community-based Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) across the Pennine Care footprint. This includes the boroughs of Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, Stockport, Tameside and Glossop and Trafford.

Please note, our inpatient services (the Hope and Horizon units) will be unaffected.

CAMHS is for children and young people, who are experiencing mental health or emotional wellbeing issues.

The rationale

During recent visits, Ofsted inspectors highlighted that some CAMHS across the country are changing their name. They support this approach, as it can help to ‘de-medicalise’ children’s mental health services.

Camden Council and Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust have both changed the name of their CAMHS, after feedback highlighted that it could be ‘stigmatising’ and ‘has little meaning’. Some of our service users and staff have also requested a name change.

Have your say

We want to ensure all our key stakeholders have an opportunity to have their say on whether to change the name of CAMHS and, if so, what their preferred option is.

An online survey is available at:

The consultation will close on 3 January, 2016

Thank you in advance for your valuable feedback.
