NHS staff offer top health tips at Christmas markets
Tameside residents can pick up top tips on staying healthy this winter when they visit Ashton Christmas Markets.
NHS staff from Tameside Health Improvement Team, part of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, will be at the markets in Ashton town centre on Tuesdays and Saturdays during December.
There will be support and advice available as well as information on services relating to diet, exercise, alcohol intake and quitting smoking.
There will also be the opportunity for people to sign up to free health and wellbeing courses beginning in January.
To help spread the word staff will be joined by mascots Billy the Banana, who helps promote healthy eating, and Big Cig, who supports the Stop Smoking Team.
Lisa Jowitt, Tameside Health and Wellbeing Manager at Pennine Care, encouraged people to stop by to see the team and commit to a healthy start to 2015.
She said: “We know it can be difficult not to over-indulge with eating and drinking and many people gain up to 6 lbs over the Christmas period.
“Our staff can offer advice on how to watch your alcohol intake and count the calories and we can also help you plan ways to stop smoking and get healthier and fitter in the New Year.”
Staff will be at the markets on Tuesday December 2, 9 and 16 from 4pm to 7pm and Saturday December 6 and 13 from 10am to 1pm.
