We provide a wide range of care, advice and support including screening, immunisations, health assessments, health promotion activities, health advice and signposting, specialist support and much more.
Some examples of what school nurses can support with include emotional health and wellbeing packages of care, including support with anger issues, anxiety, stress and low mood and specific support with physical health needs for example enuresis (Bedwetting).
The school nurses can support parents, carers and educational staff to ensure their childs health needs are being met and facilitate any training needs that have been idenified.
We offer confidential advice in a variety of settings on the request of young people and facilitate referrals to appropriate services as needed. School nurses offer regular drop in sessions in schools, colleges and local health clinics.
ChatHealth text-based advice service
We provide a text message based advice service called ChatHealth. This safe and confidential service allows young people to text their school nurse to book an appointment or ask any questions they have, for example around relationships. bullying, drugs and alcohol, smoking, healthy eating, exercise or general health concerns.
The service is for children and young people who live or attend a school in Heywood, Middleton or Rochdale and it is available Monday to Friday, from 9am to 4.30pm, throughout the year (excluding bank holidays).
The aim is to increase the likelihood of young people seeking the help they need, by making it as easy and informal as possible to contact a school nurse. In doing so, we hope to improve their health and wellbeing.
